Vision Statement
The Marston Physical Education Team aligns our curriculum with the Physical Education Model Content Standards and the California State Framework to provide a diversified program of developmental activities, non-traditional games, sports, combatives, dance and rhythms which are suited to the diversities, abilities, and limitations of all students enrolled in our program. We are committed to providing the safest environment and the most contemporary curriculum, standards-based instructional strategies, assessment systems, and technology currently known to our profession. We believe and abide by the premise in the CA State Framework "that the quality and productivity of each individual's life can be enhanced through participation in a comprehensive, sequential physical education system that promotes physical, mental, emotional and social well-being." We believe and base our program on the fact that physical education is affective and cognitive as well as physical. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive life skills program. We are committed to professional development and to our state-level governing organization, C.A.H.P.E.R.D., not only as active conference participants but also as presenters and event organizers.
Background Information
Our Physical Education Team is comprised of male and female physical educators. Administrative support and shared decision-making provide the backbone of our successful physical education program. We live by the motto that "none of us is as strong as all of us." Our shared values and commitment to a strong work ethic have allowed us to continually grow as educators and professionals.
The Marston Physical Education Staff commits itself to working as a team to provide our students with the highest quality physical education program possible based on state and national standards. We consistently examine our curriculum and teaching methods to ensure that we are providing a safe, relevant, and effective program for our changing student population. Taking the initiative to fully scrutinize our program year after year has given us the strength and fortitude to make constant gains in improving our teaching strategies.
Our curriculum is sequential by grade level and is comprised of standards-based lesson plans and units. We utilize performance task lists, rubrics and alternative, authentic assessments.
All 7th grade students will participate in a 2 week swim program with support from the PTSA
