Learning Targets & Common Assessments

Current 6th Grade Key Learning Targets:

  1. Students will be able to read, analyze, and interpret the meaning of poetry and literature.
  2. Students will be able to understand how a poem is structured, including stanzas, rhyme, rhythm, metaphors, and tone.
  3. Students will be able to understand how word choice, metaphors, and tone enrich the meaning of poetry and literature.
  4. Students will analyze words for shades of meaning.

Current 7th Grade Key Learning Targets:

Students will write a historical fictional narrative which references real people, attitudes, and events:

· Who was involved?

· What were the issues?

· What were the styles of dress?

· Speech habits?

· Differences between male and female roles?

· Social power hierarchy.

· Type of government?

· What did people of the time period fear? Desire? Believe?

Current 8th Grade Key Learning Targets:

R.1 Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

R.3 Analyze howand why individuals, events, or ideas develop and interact over the course of atext.

R.9 Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in orderto build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.

W.3 Write narrativesto develop real or imaged experiences or events using effective technique,well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.

W.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
