MARSTON UPDATE

NOVEMBER 20, 2020

Good Afternoon Marston Parents!

I hope you are all ready for a nice, safe holiday week next week. All district schools will be closed next week and will reopen on Monday, November 30. There will be another academic progress report for Q2 for work done up through December 4th. The progress report grades should be available online by December 11th. The second quarter does not end until January 22nd.

PARENT-ADMIN CHATS –  NEXT MEETING IS DECEMBER 10th - TOPIC IS INTERNET SAFETY - DON’T MISS THIS

The next Parent-Admin Chat is scheduled for Thursday, December 10th at 5pm on Zoom. This event will actually be an internet safety presentation by SafetyNet. They have provided great presentations in the past and we expect this to be the case again. SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices® is a collaborative program of the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the San Diego Police Foundation. It is designed to help kids, parents, educators, and concerned adults learn how to keep kids safe online. For more information about this program, please visit the website https://www.smartcyberchoices.org/about/who-we-are/

IMPORTANT!!! WE NEED PARENT FEEDBACK - PLEASE DO NOW

Earlier in the year over 250 Marston parents provided information that helped us create measurable goals. Parents - we NEED you to take this brief, important parent survey to help us reinforce and refine our practices. We currently only have 25 responses on this survey. We need over 250. PLEASE PARENTS TAKE THIS SURVEY so we can know what areas are working and what areas need improvement. THANK YOU!

IN-PERSON, OPTIONAL 6TH GRADE ORIENTATION (Afternoon of December 10 or 11)

All Marston 6th graders are invited to attend an optional, in-person 6th grade orientation on the Marston campus! Participating students will be separated into small groups of 10 or fewer students and will take a tour of campus and participate in a fun activity. Groups will be led by Marston Administration or Counselors. The entire event will be outdoors. All students must wear a mask and should bring their own bottle of water.

There will be two rotations on each day. Please only sign up for ONE rotation on just one of the days. The first rotation is from 2:00-2:45 and the 2nd from 3:00-3:45. Parents will drop off their child in the Marston small parking lot by the library and pick up near the auditorium on Ute St.

Registration is REQUIRED for this event. Please sign up here https://signup.com/go/PzFkLap

NOTE: We will add another day to the schedule if all slots get filled up. Please direct questions about the event to Mrs. Moravec at [email protected]

SCHOOL REOPENING UPDATE

All district middle and high schools will start offering Appointment-Based Learning for select students as early as 12/7/20. This was recently announced, so Marston is in the process of identifying available personnel and eligible students according to district criteria. Marston staff will contact the parents of students who can participate in the comping weeks. At this time, it seems the sessions will be on select weekdays from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

THANKSGIVING WEEK MEALS

Thanksgiving week meals will be available at 34 Curbside Grab n’ Go Meal Locations on 11/23 & 11/24

Please view this flyer. Any site not listed will be closed for Thanksgiving week and all meal pick-up locations will resume regular curbside service on 11/30. Here is the link to the general SDUSD meal distribution program: https://sandiegounified.org/departments/food_and_nutrition_services

YEARBOOK UPDATE

We tried to generate an official yearbook for this school year, but this will no longer happen. We received a small amount of photos thus far, very few yearbook sales and also have not received the necessary approvals to conduct official school photos. The good news is that we will provide a digital collection of photos (perhaps a slideshow or video) for FREE to all students at the end of the school year. So please continue to submit your photos to Carol Montanez at [email protected] We know many of you took some good photos of online learning, Halloween, awards and other happenings. Please send us your pictures!

WANT MORE MATH?

Earlier this school year some Marston parents requested more math practice for their child, particularly during the quarter in which students are not enrolled in a math course. Please click here for instructions on how to access ST Math and Khan Academy. Click here for the SDUSD ST Math parent letter.

UNIFORM COMPLAINT POLICY

All schools in the San Diego Unified School District are required to distribute the SDUSD Uniform Complaint Policy. This notification will fulfill this requirement. Please click here for the policy and click here for more information
