About Me

I have been teaching middle school students since 1989, and at Marston since 1998.  I began my teaching career as a special education teacher, then went back to graduate school to get a second master’s degree in middle school education with an emphasis on integrating English and history.  Since I started teaching at Marston, I have taught sixth grade English and history to all ability levels, including GATE and Seminar for the past ten years. This year I will continue teaching sixth grade social studies, and my students will have Ms. Hashimoto for English.  In addition to our rigorous curricula, together we will guide our students through a community-based learning project for the San Diego Coast Keepers with the goal of educating our students and community on how to protect our watershed and ocean. I love the challenge of finding new ways to engage students and look forward to another exciting school year.

In my personal life, I like sewing, cooking, reading, movies, music, walking on the beach and taking my dog, Strider, to the Cadman dog park.  My son, Spencer, went to Marston and Clairemont High and is now attending San Diego State University. I have two step-daughters who are moms in their thirties and four young grandchildren.  I grew up in Pacific Beach and graduated from Mission Bay High School in the class of ‘77.
