Principal's message Sep.16th

Good Evening Marston Parents,
I hope your family is healthy and your child is doing well with online learning. Please read through the many updates below.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Back to School Night is tomorrow - Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m.

CLAIREMONT COMMUNITY OF SCHOOLS
About 85% of Marston’s students are from one of our 5 elementary feeder schools - Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Holmes and Toler. Clairemont Community of Schools are meetings in which representatives from all 5 feeder schools, Marston and Clairemont High School discuss topics like K-12 alignment, district updates, enrollment, marketing and items brought forth to the committee. Guests can attend to be part of the discussion and can also request that a topic be discussed. Click here to request to either present information or have your question answered at the meeting. Many times an area superintendent and a SDUSD Board Trustee attend these meetings. Please join us at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8th for our first meeting of the year! All are welcome! A Zoom link to the meeting will be sent at a later time.
MARSTON PARENT-ADMIN CHATS
Last year we held monthly Coffee with the Principal meetings. This year we will have Parent-Admin Chats. The plan is to have two sessions each month – one morning session and one evening session. The format will usually be a brief presentation followed by your questions. Marston counselors and administrators will lead the discussions and take your questions. The first four meetings are scheduled as follows:
  • Wednesday, September, 23 – 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 7 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, October 21 – 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 4 - 8:30 a.m.
PARENT PRIORITIES
About 175 parents have informed us of their priorities for this school year. If you haven’t yet provided your input, please click here and submit the brief, 2-question survey. We are using your input to create school-wide goals of which we will monitor throughout the year.
OPTIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL LEARNING FOR MATHEMATICS
Some families expressed interest in supplemental math practice during the quarter in which their child is not enrolled in a math class. All Marston math teachers met over the summer to determine which standards would be taught on each day of the quarter. While teachers were able to account for all grade-level standards for their 2020-2021 online courses, there are some standards that we wish we could cover in greater depth. Click here for an in-progress document that identifies lessons in Khan Academy for those families that want more practice. 6th and 7th grade are completed; we will update 8th grade soon. San Diego Unified is also in the process of getting licenses for every middle school student for a math program. I will provide that information once the deal becomes official and accounts are established.
MARSTON CALL CENTER
While we still ask that parents contact the appropriate staff member via email, we have established a Google Voice number that will be managed by our awesome office staff. Please feel free to give us a call if you get stuck. While we are not Microsoft certified, we will listen and do the best we can to help you. The phone number is 619-356-8701. Click here for our Staff Directory for Parents. Many of the issues students experience can be remedied with the information provided here.
STUDENT PLANNERS & ELA MATERIALS PICK-UP
Months ago Marston purchased planners (also called agendas) for each student. They are calendar notebooks with information about Marston that students can use to record assignments and other to-do lists. They finally arrived to the site and are available for pick-up. Also course materials for 7th and 8th grade English courses recently arrived. Please mark your calendars for the following pick-up events:
